Greenwood County Release Records
A release is the event that ends a person's custody at a given facility. It does not always mean the person walked into the community with no further legal limits. Someone may leave the Greenwood County Detention Center on bond, after time served, under a court order, or by transfer to another agency. A person leaving Leath Correctional Institution follows the state corrections path. Each system keeps its own record.
The county's online JailTracker is a current-custody tool, not a release archive. When a name disappears, the change may reflect a release, transfer, feed change, or identity mismatch. The release sheet, court docket, or receiving agency supplies the missing context. For state prisoners, the South Carolina Department of Corrections maintains a separate released-inmate search. This split is vital when looking for Greenwood County released inmates.
Greenwood County Release Types
The recorded disposition explains how custody ended. Ask for the exact term used by the jail or SCDC rather than reducing every outcome to “released.” A detainer is a request by another authority to hold or receive a person. A discharge ends custody under the named commitment. Time served means the required custodial term has been credited as complete.

Greenwood Release Record Fields
Greenwood County does not publish a fixed online release-sheet schema. A focused request should seek the event fields that distinguish identity, timing, authority, and destination. The statewide county retention schedule confirms that booking reports, commitment and discharge orders, inmate files, and jail books can contain release facts. Public access can still be limited by lawful redaction, sealing, or expungement.

A booking record and release record answer related but distinct questions. The booking record documents entry. The release record documents the end of that custody episode. Court records can explain the legal action, but they do not replace the physical release timestamp kept by the detention authority.
Request Greenwood County Release Records
The official route is the Greenwood County NextRequest portal. Ask for existing records, not an opinion about whether someone is free. Include the full name, date of birth if known, booking number, arresting agency, and a narrow date range. Name each desired item separately.
- Check the current jail search and note the exact spelling and any booking identifier.
- Open NextRequest and request the booking sheet, release or discharge sheet, custody-movement record, and recorded disposition.
- Ask for release date and time, transfer destination if releasable, and the original booking image only when needed for identity confirmation.
- Request a written cost estimate before authorizing a large search. Greenwood publishes a payment portal but no fixed release-record price.
- Compare the response with the court docket or receiving-agency record before drawing a conclusion.
The county Records Division is at 528 Edgefield Street and lists 864-942-8600, though its public instructions currently say “Coming soon.” County Administration handles the portal at 600 Monument Street, Suite 102, and lists 864-942-8507. Its posted hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with Friday closed. Those are administration hours, not jail release-desk hours.

Greenwood Release Record Laws
The South Carolina Freedom of Information Act permits inspection, copies, or electronic transmission of public records, subject to exemptions. An agency need not create a new record. It may charge reasonable actual search, retrieval, and redaction costs. Existing electronic records sent electronically carry no copy charge, and a deposit cannot exceed 25 percent of expected reproduction cost.
For records no more than 24 months old, the public body generally has ten business days to decide availability. Older records allow twenty business days. Production generally follows within thirty calendar days, or thirty-five for older material, after the determination or required deposit. Written extensions are possible. Records identifying people confined in a jail during the preceding three months must be available during operating hours unless exempt, but that rule does not require an online release feed.
Greenwood Releases After Expungement
Expungement is a legal process that removes qualifying records from public access. It is not an automatic result of release. Under South Carolina law, qualifying dismissed, discharged, or not-guilty charges can require destruction of arrest and booking records. Certain agencies may retain sealed material for a limited statutory period for professional, statistical, or litigation needs.
Juvenile, victim, medical, sealed, and expunged information may be withheld or redacted. A missing public result therefore cannot prove that no arrest, booking, or release event occurred. Requests should not seek to reconstruct sealed material. For an eligible case, the solicitor's office in the circuit where the charge began handles the statutory application route.
Confirm Greenwood County Bond Release
Greenwood's centralized Magistrate Court is at 528 Monument Street, Room 100. Magistrates issue warrants, set bonds, and hold preliminary hearings within their jurisdiction. A bond entry can explain the authority and conditions for release, but it does not show that jail processing finished at that moment.
Use the Greenwood Public Index to locate the case and bond event. Then obtain the detention release record for the actual exit time. A person could remain held while conditions are completed or because another detainer applies. The legal order and custody record should agree before the event is described as a bond-out.
Find Greenwood County Released Inmates
No single Greenwood search covers county jail, state prison, court, supervision, federal, and immigration custody. Begin with the agency that held the person, then follow the custody path. This avoids mistaking a transfer for a community release.
- Open the county's official detention page and follow its current inmate-search link. A present result indicates current county custody; an absent result needs more work.
- For a recent county exit, call the Greenwood County Detention Center at 864-943-8059. Ask whether the person remains there and whether the recorded exit was release or transfer.
- Request the county booking/release sheet through NextRequest for documentary proof.
- Search the Greenwood Public Index for bond, dismissal, disposition, or sentence events. Confirm physical release separately.
- Check SCDC current custody, then its separate released-inmate search if state prison is possible.
- Check SCDPPPS for post-release supervision and VINELink for custody-event notices. Use federal or ICE tools only when that custody stream applies.

SCDC Greenwood Release Search
SCDC offers two different tools. Its current inmate search covers people currently sentenced to and incarcerated in SCDC. Data is stated as current through midnight of the prior day. It excludes released people, county-only sentences, community supervision, juveniles, and current SCDC fugitives.
The separate SCDC Released Inmate Search requires a beginning release date, ending release date, and county. It also offers an optional sex-offender filter. Results appear ten at a time and can be exported. The interface does not define “County,” so do not treat it as release location or current residence without confirmation.

Greenwood Release Supervision Lookup
The SCDPPPS Offender Search checks community supervision. It accepts combinations of name, SID, birth year, and county. A Greenwood selection is useful only when Greenwood is believed to be the county of supervision, not just the place of arrest.

- Early release from SCDC while the person serves the rest of the sentence under supervision.
- Probation
- A court-ordered community sentence. It does not by itself prove release from SCDC.
- Supervised reentry
- A distinct local category of community oversight after custody.
- Discharge
- The end of custody or a stated legal obligation under the record being examined.
SCDPPPS warns that public results reflect the previous day, and people no longer supervised may not appear. A positive record can confirm supervision. Greenwood Release ID Preparation
SCDC describes reentry work that includes obtaining birth certificates, Social Security cards, and DMV identification before state release. Those records can help a person restore proof of identity and handle ordinary personal tasks after leaving prison. This preparation belongs to the state correctional process, not the Greenwood County jail roster.
The research did not identify a Greenwood County jail property-return procedure or a posted release checklist. Do not assume a pickup point, required fee, release hour, or weekend process. For a county release, ask the Detention Center about the specific booking and request any property receipt in the inmate file when a record is needed.
Greenwood Release Court Records
The Clerk of Court keeps General Sessions warrants, bonds, indictments, and related criminal records. The office states that General Sessions case information is not given by telephone and staff do not perform research for requesters. When the online Public Index fails, the documented fallback is an in-person search.
The Clerk is at 528 Monument Street, Room 114, and public terminals and index books are available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Staff can assist with use of those resources. The official Clerk page shown below explains the local access path.
A docket can establish the legal disposition. The detention authority remains the source for when physical custody actually ended.
Greenwood Release Alerts and Locators
South Carolina VINE covers participating county detention centers, SCDC, and SCDPPPS. Search by name or offender number at the South Carolina VINELink portal. Middle initial and date of birth help separate like names. The state FAQ says source systems are checked every 15 minutes, yet VINELink is a notification service rather than a certified release record.
VINE cannot track adults who are out on bond. A “not found” result may indicate release, but can also reflect a transfer, feed issue, or mismatch. Re-register when a person moves between agencies. County alerts can use phone, text, TTY, or email. State-prison victim notification is handled separately through SCDC Victim Services.
Federal cases require different tools. The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal records from 1982 onward. A past release date with no BOP location means the person is no longer in BOP custody, not necessarily free of all custody. ICE's locator can include people released from ICE custody within the prior 60 days. USMS has no general public person locator, so a federal court docket may be the practical path for a release order.

Leath Greenwood Release History
Leath Correctional Institution is an SCDC medium-security prison for women. It opened in 1991. SCDC's chronology also records a longer local lineage: the department assumed the Greenwood County Prison Camp in 1974, and that operation later became Greenwood Correctional Center and then the Greenwood Unit at Leath.
That history does not merge the state prison with the county jail. Releases from Leath belong in SCDC's current and released-inmate systems. Any parole or other community supervision is checked through SCDPPPS. County JailTracker should not be used to infer the release of a Leath prisoner.
Greenwood County Release Facilities
Two facilities in Greenwood County lead to distinct release paths. Use the facility that actually held the person, then verify the next custody or supervision step.
- Greenwood County Detention Center: the county jail at 528 Edgefield Street. Confirm recent local exits through the jail and county release record.
- Leath Correctional Institution: the SCDC women's prison at 2809 Airport Road. Confirm discharge through SCDC and any supervision through SCDPPPS.
No federal prison or official ICE detention facility was identified in Greenwood County. Municipal arrests may still lead to the county detention center. A move from that jail to Leath, another SCDC prison, another county, or a federal authority remains a transfer until the receiving system confirms otherwise.
