Leath Institution Release Path
Leath Correctional Institution is a South Carolina Department of Corrections medium-security prison for women. It is located in Greenwood County, but its residents are state prisoners. Their custody and release records belong to SCDC. Greenwood County JailTracker does not track Leath custody and should not be used to infer a Leath release.

- If the result shows probation, community supervision, or another supervised status, check SCDPPPS. Ask SCDC when the result is missing or unclear.

These are active custody facts. The projected date assumes current credits continue and can change after a rules violation or credit loss.

Leath Release Result Fields
The SCDC released table visibly provides SCDC ID, name, sex, race, age, a sex-offender indicator, release date, release type, and county. Its export adds SID, victim indicator, detainer indicator, and MSO, meaning most serious offense. The list does not display a correctional photograph in its ordinary result table.
Release type carries the essential context. SCDC results can include COMMUNITY SUPV, PROBATION, RELEASED, and DEATH. Community supervision or probation indicates that SCDC incarceration ended while another legal status follows. A death entry must never be described as a return to the community. A detainer may require contact with another agency because leaving SCDC does not prove freedom from all custody.

Leath Post-Release Supervision
The South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services is the public source for community supervision after state custody. Its offender search accepts valid combinations involving name, SID, birth year, and county. A Greenwood filter is relevant when Greenwood is believed to be the county of supervision, not simply the site of Leath prison.

Leath Projected Release Dates
A projected date is not an actual release record. SCDC defines it as the date when it expects an inmate to satisfy all incarcerated terms if work, education, and good-time credits continue at the current rate. Loss of good time can move the date later. Sentence changes and other legal events can also affect the calculation.
Projected parole eligibility is a separate field. Eligibility means a person may be considered under applicable law, not that the Board will approve release. SCDC's current profile can be valuable while a person remains at Leath, but it drops outside that tool's stated scope after release. Record the SCDC ID first. Then use that identifier to match the historical release row or request the state record.
Leath Release Notification
South Carolina VINE supplies custody and supervision information across participating detention centers, SCDC, and SCDPPPS. It can help track a transition, but it is not a certified discharge record. A person should be matched by name or offender number, with middle initial and date of birth used when available. Always note which agency supplied the result.
State-prison victim notification follows a separate SCDC process. SCDC says online victim registration is not currently available. SCDC lists sentence completion, court-ordered release, supervised furlough, transfer, escape or recapture, and death among notice events. Release notices are sent by letter, while transfer alerts can use automated calls. Parole-hearing notice belongs to SCDPPPS rather than SCDC. These separate channels prevent a transfer alert from being mistaken for final release from Leath.
Leath Prison Release History
SCDC identifies Leath as a medium-security women's institution that opened in 1991. Its local correctional lineage reaches further back. The department's chronology states that SCDC assumed operation of the Greenwood County Prison Camp in 1974. The operation later became Greenwood Correctional Center and then the Greenwood Unit at Leath.
That history can cause location names to appear differently in older material. Match the date, person, SCDC identifier, and institution name in use at the time. Do not treat Greenwood Correctional Center, the Greenwood Unit at Leath, and the present county detention center as interchangeable names.
The distinction affects where records are held. State correctional custody belongs with SCDC. A county booking belongs with Greenwood County. If a person moved between the two systems, each agency may hold one part of the custody chain.
About Leath Correctional Institution
Leath is operated by SCDC, not the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office. It is a medium-security state prison for women at 2809 Airport Road. The Greenwood County Detention Center on Edgefield Street is the local jail and has a separate current-custody search and release-record process.
A move from the county detention center to Leath is a transfer into state custody. It is not release to the community. Conversely, an SCDC release from Leath is not documented by county JailTracker. The state released-inmate record, release type, and any later SCDPPPS result form the correct chain.
