Greenwood Detention Center Releases
The Greenwood County Detention Center is the county jail at the Law Enforcement Center. A person can leave its custody for more than one reason. Community release may follow bond, recognizance, time served, sentence completion, dismissal, or another court order. The jail can also transfer someone to the South Carolina Department of Corrections, another county, a federal authority, or another custodian. Only the first group clearly describes release into the community.
The county's official detention page links to JailTracker as its “Detention Center Inmate Search.” That tool is for current custody. It is not labeled as a release archive, and the county publishes no fixed period for keeping former entries online. If a name is gone, use the release sheet to learn whether the recorded disposition was release or transfer. A court record can explain the legal event, but the jail record confirms when physical custody ended.
Confirm Greenwood Detention Release
Start with the system that held the person. Keep the full name, date of birth, booking number, and likely booking dates nearby. These identifiers reduce the risk of mixing two people with the same name.
- Open the official detention page and follow the county inmate-search link. A present entry indicates current county custody, not release.
- If the name is missing, call the jail at 864-943-8059. Ask whether the person remains in Greenwood custody and whether the recorded exit was community release or transfer.
- Submit a narrow request through Greenwood County NextRequest for the booking and release records.
- Search the Greenwood Public Index for bond, dismissal, sentence, or other disposition. Treat a court order as authority, not the completed release time.
- If transfer is possible, check SCDC, the receiving county, or the relevant federal system. A transfer is not release to the community.

Greenwood Jail Release List Limits
No official Greenwood County 24-hour, 48-hour, or 72-hour release feed was identified. The county publishes one current JailTracker link. It does not state a refresh schedule, post-release display period, or historical-release function. A current roster can establish that a person is shown now. It cannot explain why someone is absent.
For a same-day question, phone confirmation is the fastest official fallback. For documentary proof, request a booking/release sheet. Do not create a recent-release list by comparing roster snapshots or by relying on an unrelated commercial booking page. Those methods cannot distinguish bond-out from transfer, duplicate identity, or a vendor update.
The county and sheriff pages reviewed link an official Facebook account, but no sheriff mobile app was identified. Social posts are not a complete release archive. They should never replace the detention record for a named person's custody event.
Greenwood Detention Release Record
A focused record request should identify the exact custody episode and each desired document. Ask for existing records rather than asking staff to decide whether the person is “free.” The most useful items are the booking sheet, release or discharge sheet, custody-movement record, and any transfer entry that can lawfully be released.

It does not publish release-desk hours, release-processing times, an exit door, a family waiting place, weekend rules, or a property-return procedure. The Sheriff's Records Division is at the same Law Enforcement Center and lists 864-942-8600. Its page currently says “Coming soon” and gives no release-record fee schedule. The county's NextRequest portal is the formal South Carolina FOIA route. County Administration lists 864-942-8507 and a separate payment portal, but no fixed amount for a release sheet or booking photograph.
Greenwood Bond Release Check
Greenwood County's centralized Magistrate Court is at 528 Monument Street, Room 100. Magistrates set bonds and conduct preliminary hearings within their jurisdiction. A bond order shows legal authority and conditions. It does not prove that the detention center completed the release at the same time.
Search the Greenwood Public Index for the case event. Then compare it with the jail release date and time. A person may remain held while bond terms are met or because another detainer applies. A detainer is a request from another authority to hold or receive the person.
General Sessions records are handled by the Clerk of Court at 528 Monument Street, Room 114. The Clerk states that staff do not give General Sessions case information by phone and do not research cases for users. Public terminals and index books are the in-person fallback, with office hours Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Greenwood Release or Transfer
A transfer changes custody without placing the person in the community. If the county record points to SCDC, search the state current-inmate system. Its public profile can show the SCDC ID, SID, admission date, location, sentence details, and projected dates. Those are active custody fields, not proof of county release into the community.
If an SCDC sentence later ends, use the separate SCDC Released Inmate Search. It requires a release-date range and county and returns a release date and type. Labels such as probation or community supervision signal a further check with SCDPPPS. A detainer indicator can call for an inquiry to another authority.

Greenwood Detention Record Access
South Carolina's Freedom of Information Act permits inspection, copies, or electronic transmission of public records, subject to legal exemptions. The county need not create a new report or answer a broad research question. A narrow request for an existing booking sheet, discharge order, booking in/out report, or jail-book entry is easier to identify and process.
The law permits reasonable fees based on actual search, retrieval, and redaction costs. An existing electronic record sent electronically carries no copy charge. A public body may require a deposit of no more than 25 percent of expected reproduction cost. Greenwood provides a payment channel but did not publish a fixed release-record rate in the reviewed material. Ask for a written estimate before approving a costly search.
For newer records, the public body generally has ten business days to decide availability, followed by the statutory production period. Older records allow more time. Exemptions can protect juvenile, medical, victim, sealed, expunged, and sensitive law-enforcement information. A redaction does not make the remaining release date or disposition unreliable, but it can limit the detail available to the public.
About Greenwood Detention Center
The Greenwood County Detention Center is the county-level jail operated through the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office. It is located at the Law Enforcement Center on Edgefield Street. Municipal police may make arrests, but the county identifies this detention center as its official public jail destination.
Leath Correctional Institution is a separate SCDC state prison on Airport Road. It is not another name for the county jail. Someone transferred from the detention center to Leath or any SCDC institution has left county custody but has not been released to the community. The SCDC search, not JailTracker, then becomes the relevant custody source.
